The use of Impulse Response Function for Modal Parameter Estimation

چکیده
This article discusses the errors that are introduced when calculating the impulse response function from the frequency response function using DFT/ FFT analysis technique. The impulse response function is used in many applications of system analysis where a description of the system characteristics is preferred in the time domain rather than in the frequency domain. The case where the system is a single degree of freedom system (SDOF), with viscous damping, is analysed. It is shown that the estimated impulse response function is not described by a single exponentially decaying sine wave but rather as a sum of exponentially decaying sine waves. It is important to apply this slightly more complex model when the measurements are to be used for mathematical modelling of systems containing lightly damped resonances and where measurements free of the influence of leakage are performed. This article represents an expansion of papers presented at the Modal Analysis Conference ISMA 15, held in Leuven, Belgium 1990 and included in the Proceedings of IMAC 9, Firenze, Italy 1991. Damage identification of structures using experimental modal analysis and continuous wavelet transform
Abstract: Modal analysis is a powerful technique for understanding the behavior and performance of structures. Modal analysis can be conducted via artificial excitation, e.g. shaker or instrument hammer excitation. Input force and output responses are measured. That is normally referred to as experimental modal analysis (EMA). EMA consists of three steps: data acquisition, system identificatio...
متن کاملEstimation of Impulse Responses: a novel Method and its Use in Experimental Modal Analysis
A novel method for the estimation of Impulse Response matrices from measured input-output data, called IRE (Impulse Response Estimation) is presented. It is shown that the method is strongly consistent under colored output noise. Its performance is compared to two other methods achieving the same goal. Then, the IRE algorithm is combined with classical impulse response driven algorithms for exp...
متن کاملRoom acoustic modal analysis using Bayesian inferencea)
Strong modal behavior can produce undesirable acoustical effects, particularly in recording studios and other small rooms. Although closed-form solutions exist to predict modes in rectangular rooms with parallel walls, such solutions are typically not available for rooms with even modest geometrical complexity. This work explores a method to identify multiple decaying modes in experimentally me...
متن کاملUsing multi-response parameter estimation for structural condition and risk assessment of in-service bridges
Structural parameter estimation has great potential for the purpose of structural condition assessment of in-service structures. The information gained through structural parameter estimation can be used to develop a load rating system and other risk assessment tools for in-service bridges. Simultaneous use of static and modal measurements or “multi-response” parameter estimation is used in thi...
متن کاملHeuristic Process Model Simplification in Frequency Response Domain
Frequency response diagrams of a system include detailed and recognizable information about the structural and parameter effects of the transfer function model of the system. The information are qualitatively and quantitatively obtainable from simultaneous consideration of amplitude ratio and phase information. In this paper, some rules and relationships are presented for making use of frequenc...
